We are pleased to announce that the Hawthorne Hotel was nominated by Historic Hotels of America for the 2015 Awards of Excellence and selected for both the Best City Center Historic Hotel, as well as Best Historic Hotel (76-200 guest rooms).
As the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Historic Hotels of America provides the recognition to travelers, civic leaders, and the global cultural, heritage, and historic travel market that its 260 member hotels are among the finest historic hotels across America.
“We are thrilled to be nominated in these categories alongside a distinct group of historic hotels, including ThePlaza in New York City, The Jefferson in Washington DC and Boston’s Omni Parker Hotel,”, explains Patrick Cornelissen, General Manager of the Hawthorne Hotel, “and it speaks volumes of the entire hotel team that is being recognized for their hard work and exemplary customer service.”
Cornelissen joined the hotel about 5 months ago as GM and, together with a team of 150 employees, has been working on elevating the property to the next level. “While any historic property comes with its own challenges, it also provides a tremendous opportunity to stand out and be different. We are fortunate to be part of Salem’s main tourism triangle, marked between the Hawthorne, the Salem Witch Museum and the PEM, yet we embrace the entire city’s heritage, culture and renewed vitality that was established under the leadership of Mayor Driscoll”, explains Cornelissen.
Together with entities such as the House of Seven Gables, and a vibrant city center that has become a culinary destination rivaling Portland Maine, Salem’s Hawthorne Hotel offers a unique historic perspective for people looking for more than just a cookie-cutter stay and who wish to be in the center of the action. The hotel recently celebrated its 90th anniversary and has been an integral part of the city’s growth into a destination that has long transcended just weekends and special holidays. The hotel offers 93 guests rooms and hosts two award winning restaurants: the pub-style Tavern on the Green and the European inspired Nat’s.
Award recipients were selected from nominations received by historic hotels, historic preservation supporters, and leadership from Historic Hotels of America and these awards recognize the pinnacle of this distinct group of nominees in a range of categories. The final award winners will be announced early October to recipients before an audience of
owners, senior management, industry leaders, and representatives from the finest historic hotels across the United States. The 2015 award nominees are as
