Although only the suites are equipped with Keurig coffee makers, complimentary coffee and tea is available during the day in the hotel lobby. Guests may also show their room key to a server in the Tavern for complimentary hot beverages. Suites also come equipped with mini-fridges. For all other guest rooms, mini-fridges are available upon request. There is no fee -- just let the Front Desk know at the time of booking that you'd like a mini-fridge in your room upon arrival.
While not confirmed, some guests have shared personal stories of haunting experiences. If you are looking for a spooky experience, you may get one. On the other hand, most of our guests sleep peacefully without noticing any paranormal activity.
Yes. We have two parking lots located on Essex Street, behind the hotel. Parking is free and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Although the Hawthorne does not provide shuttle service, we are happy to set up a car service or call a taxi/Uber/Lyft if you are in need of transportation. The hotel is located within walking distance of the Salem Ferry and the MBTA Commuter Rail.
Yes. All of our rooms, including function rooms, are smoke-free.
When booking a Saturday night stay in the months of June through October you will be required to stay two nights. We do not require a deposit at the time of booking (except for Saturday night stays in October), but if you cancel within 72 hours of your arrival we will charge you for one night's room and tax.
Check-in is guaranteed for 4:00 p.m. Check-out is at 11:00 a.m.
While we can’t guarantee an early check-in before 4:00 p.m., we can make notes in your reservation for an early check-in request. We recommend calling the morning of arrival to get a sense of how likely it is that a room would be ready early. We are happy to hold your luggage if the room is not yet ready when you arrive and you are more than welcome to park your car in our parking lot while you explore Salem and wait for your room to become available.
Breakfast is only included as part of a pre-booked package. Nathaniel's restaurant, located off the lobby, serves breakfast Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and brunch on weekends.

Yes! We love pets and welcome up to two furry guests per room. Animals are accommodated on our 6th floor where they can enjoy a doggie room service menu and special amenities. Salem is a dog-friendly community with many parks, scenic walking routes, and restaurants with outdoor seating.
We welcome well-behaved pets (up to two per room) to join owners in our designated pet-friendly rooms on the 6th floor, with advance notice. An additional fee of $50 per night will be applied to your room. Be sure to notify your Front Desk clerk if you will be traveling with a pet to ensure you are confirmed in one of our pet-friendly rooms. Only service animals are allowed in our restaurants and function space and we do request that animals refrain from sitting on the furniture in the Lobby and Mezzanine.
