Check-in is guaranteed for 4:00 p.m. Check-out is at 11:00 a.m. We do invite you to leave your luggage at the front desk if arriving early or wishing to spend more time in Salem following check-out.
Reservations can be made up to one year in advance. Please see our October in Salem page for complete details on booking your stay during our peak season, as timing is different than other months of the year.
When booking a Saturday night stay June through October you will be required to stay two nights, adding either the Friday or Sunday to your reservation.
Although we ask for a credit card with every guest room reservation, you are not charged for your stay until check out. Please note that for stays in September or October, a one-night non-refundable deposit is required and charged at the time the reservation is made.
We do not require a deposit at the time of booking, with the exception of stays during September or October which require a deposit equal to one night. Special room packages in October may have different guidelines so please review those reservation forms carefully. Note that reservations made outside of September and October have a 72 hour cancellation window. Should you cancel within 72 hours of your arrival, we will charge you for one night's room and tax.
We do have rooms with two queen beds that also have space for an added roll-away to accommodate an additional guest. There is a $15 charge added to each night.
Although we do not offer traditional connecting rooms, we can recommend room 325 for families that would like a bit of privacy. The two queen bedrooms are separated by the bathroom. If you'd like to be near specific hotel guests, please speak directly with the front desk.
We welcome bookings by guests over the age of 21. A valid ID plus a credit or debit card will be required for all guests at check-in.
Breakfast is only included as part of a pre-booked package. Nathaniel's restaurant, located off the lobby, serves an à la carte breakfast Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (with live music). On occasion breakfast may be moved to the Tavern to accommodate in-house groups.
We accept cancellations that are communicated at least 72 hours prior to your arrival date. If you cancel with less than 72 hours notice, you will be charged the equivalent of a one night stay. Note that for September or October stays, deposits are required and cancellation at any time will result in the forfeiting of the deposit.
Yes. All of our rooms, including function rooms, are smoke-free. We ask that you smoke away from the hotel entrances to ensure a smoke-free experience for all guests.
Yes. We have two parking lots located on Essex Street, behind the hotel. We recommend entering "98 Essex Street, Salem MA" if using GPS. Parking is free and available on a first come, first served basis. If unable to find a space, please pull up in front of the hotel and alert a front desk team member. They will be able to offer you temporary, alternative parking until a spot in the lot opens up. We do provide a number of accessible spaces for those with a visible disability placard.
Although the Hawthorne does not provide shuttle service, we are happy to set up a car service or call a taxi/Uber/Lyft if you are in need of transportation. The hotel is located within walking distance of the seasonal Salem Ferry and the MBTA Commuter Rail. Logan Express is a reliable and inexpensive bus service from the airport to the North Shore, where an Uber can bring you to the hotel.
The hotel offers complimentary passes to the Salem YMCA and is located near scenic walking/jogging/biking paths. Bike rentals are available directly across from the hotel. We can also recommend yoga and fitness classes within walking distance of the property.
Yes. The room service menu can be found in the comprehensive guest directory binder located in each guest room. Or, order from our full menu in person at the host stand if you'd like "take away" food to bring up to your room.

Dining hours may be altered to accommodate in-house groups, special events or unexpected circumstances so please call 978-825-4311 to confirm.
Yes! We love pets and welcome up to two furry guests per room. Animals are accommodated on our 6th floor so please be sure to let us know you are bringing your pet. Salem is a dog-friendly community with many parks, scenic walking routes, and restaurants with outdoor seating. There is a pet fee of $75 per night to host your furry friend. Although we welcome pets in the lobby, to ensure the comfort of all of our guests, we do ask animals refrain from sitting on the furniture.
